Chloe Newell ’24 Lands Torro Media Internship

Senior business marketing student, Chloe Newell, has a passion for creating social media content, and she landed her first internship at Torro Media through a unique experience at the fall 2023 Professional Development Retreat (PDR) hosted by the O’Brien Center for Career Development.

On the second day of the PDR, a mentor is assigned to each table of students who is there to provide guidance, support and advice. Pat Florence, the VP of Marketing and Sales at Torro Media, became Chloe’s mentor at table seven. Thanks to Pat’s leadership and commitment, group seven established strong connections not only with each other, but with other PDR participants.

During a conversation with Pat, Chloe delved into the intersection of graphic design and marketing, gaining valuable insights from him. She makes user-generated content on TikTok and shares relatable content that she knows the audience would enjoy. Recently, after making a video about viral gingerbread pillows from T.J. Maxx,  the retailer took notice and requested permission to share the video.

Chloe got the opportunity to reconnect with Pat after Skills Fair at PDR. She showcased her TikTok page and work, learning that Torro Media aimed to focus more on user-generated content. Pat connected her with the founder of Torro Media, Matt Sullivan, she earned an interview and, ultimately, an offer for a Social Media and Content Creation internship, aligning perfectly with her aspirations, saying it “was exactly what [she] wanted to do.”

Reflecting on her PDR experience, Chloe acknowledged personal growth, learning to effectively sell herself despite her reserved nature. Her decision to step out of her comfort zone led her to an impressive opportunity. Chloe encourages fellow students to embrace opportunities and put themselves out there.
