Mayson Silva, a senior civil engineering student, secured a full time job offer at BOND Civil & Utility. BOND Civil & Utility is a construction firm based out of Medford, Massachusetts that specializes in building and managing large infrastructure projects, especially for utilities and energy clients.

Mayson attended a Merrimack career fair this fall, where he had the opportunity to meet the team at BOND Civil & Utility. Prior to the career fair, Mayson met with his career advisor, Laura Thibodeau, who informed him of the attending employers and helped him tailor his resume and cover letter specifically to the company.

After connecting with the BOND team at the career fair, Mayson secured an interview. Following the interview process, he was offered a full-time position. Mayson also had the chance to join the team this year through a co-op program, allowing him to gain hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the company before transitioning into his full-time role after graduation.

Mayson’s co-op at BOND is 32 hours a week where he works on the project management team. His day-to-day tasks include scheduling, cost estimating, jobsite check-ins, cost forecasting and material cost estimating. As Mayson continues his co-op, he has the opportunity to bounce around to different projects and teams to get a full understanding of the company.

Mayson has gained valuable new skills through his experience, including Excel, scheduling, leading client meetings and strengthening his professional communication. He has also developed experience using construction software such as Procore and Bluebeam.

Mayson said his classes at Merrimack helped him get a base set of skills and understanding for this co-op and full-time job. He especially shouted out Professor Sadegh Asgari from his Optimization class and Professor James Kaklamanos from his Geotechnical Engineering class.

When Mayson joins BOND full-time, he will be entering a rotation program and continuing to learn about every team at the company. Mayson said, “I am excited to be a part of the BOND Civil & Utility team. I am realizing my career goals of starting with an amazing organization, right here, in Massachusetts!”
