She explained her coursework, especially Financial Analysis II, helped her build a strong foundation in areas such as cash flow and financial statements, which she now applies in her role. During her internship, she also developed key technical skills, learning new Excel features which have improved her efficiency and productivity. One of her biggest takeaways is that accounting is always evolving and there is a constant learning curve—something she described as “the more you learn, the less you know.”
When asked for advice, Felicia stressed the importance of consistency and mindset. She shared that “showing up 70% of the time is better than 0%,” underscoring how effort and reliability go a long way in professional growth. She also emphasized gratitude, reminding students to appreciate opportunities and the people who support them along the way. Overall, her experience shows that success in accounting comes from a combination of education, hands-on experience and a willingness to keep improving.
