An internship at the Lawrence WIC program will provide students with the opportunity to observe and conduct nutrition counseling sessions in a very busy community health program. Our program serves over 6,700 clients from Lawrence, Methuen, Andover, and North Andover. We have offices in Lawrence, Methuen, and Andover, but our intern would mainly operate out of the Lawrence office. There, the intern would be able to sit in on and assist in conducting a variety of nutrition appointments with pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children under the age of five. Interns would also be able to assist with our weekly low-risk group follow-up sessions and work on nutrition education projects as assigned.
· Tasks and responsibilities that the interns will hold: Observing nutrition counseling appointments; conducting appointments with staff supervision; assisting in facilitating group follow-up sessions; assisting with clinic flow and improvements; completing nutrition research and education projects as assigned.
·Skills interns will gain: Familiarity with a community nutrition setting; counseling skills; experience with Spanish-language counseling; cultural awareness; project development.
All students will be CPR certified: Interns must pass a CORI/SORI check, which will be given by GLCAC’s HR Department on or before their first day on site; bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred but not required.
